I really enjoy the atmosphere at Fitness Quest with the helpful and friendly staff. No matter what shape you are in, you don't feel alone. It is a very professional environment with appropriate apparel and behavior. I have increased my strength and endurance gradually with training specific to me. I expected overnight results and got discouraged quickly. Chip, Angie and Shannon took the time to show me the steps it takes to be successful. I really appreciate them not being judgemental when I get off track, but instead are supportive and encouraging. They do a great job helping reach goals!
Three Years Ago, Carol Stewart was miserable. Weighing well over 300 pounds, she was unable to perform daily activities such as going to the grocery store, washing dishes or even walking comfortably. At the age of 52, Stewart was beginning to realize that she was letting her life slip away.
“I couldn’t even get down on the floor to play with my grandchildren,” she says.
It was then that Stewart decided to make a dramatic lifestyle change. Beginning with attending Weight Watchers® meetings and walking short distances, Stewart steadily worked her way up to the point where she could walk a half a block as she began to lose weight.
Then one night at a social gathering, Stewart ran into a friend who had began working out with a personal trainer named Chip Taggart. Right away, Stewart knew what she had to do.
“I called Chip and made a commitment to work out with him for three months,” she says.
Starting by working out once a week with Taggart in his home studio, Stewart gradually began to see a transformation in her body. Now, an astounding 200 pounds lighter, Stewart remains committed to working with Taggart three times a week at his studio, FitnessQuest, in Leawood.
“My whole being has elevated,” Stewart says of her new body. “My self confidence just keeps growing, and I feel great.”
In combination with her own hard work and discipline, Stewart attributes most of her success to Taggart’s motivation and encouragement throughout her journey.
“Chip is an inspiration,” she says.
Perhaps it was his own struggle with a debilitating injury that enabled him to relate to Stewart’s situation.
At the age of 19, Taggart suffered a diving injury which consequently broke his C5 vertebra. After a month-long hospital stay, a halo brace and a 45-pound weight loss due to muscle atrophy, Taggart had a long road of recovery in front of him. But that didn’t keep him down.
“I’m an eternal optimist,” he says.
Before long, but with much hard work, Taggart had reached his body-building goal.
Like Taggart, Carol Stewart has learned to believe in herself and reach her goals. Besides running several 5Ks, Stewart recently completed her first half-marathon in 2006. “The change has to come from inside you,” Taggart says. “Carol was ready to be pushed. She is very goal-driven.”
